The importance of cultural mediation

A wide variety of activities

The Art Centre’s location at the heart of the Valais - in a region where tourism, and cultural and natural heritage join forces - provides an exceptional opportunity for cultural mediation. By creating pathways, it links up landscape, built heritage, artistic traditions and approaches in wide-reaching reflection on the identity of the Alpine region and the Valais. The summer exhibitions, for example, will bring the primitive arts face to face with contemporary artistic trends. Exhibitions thus interact with the Valais’ torn dual identity between its image as “the Old Country” and as a modern and innovative canton.

There will be many opportunities at the Art Centre for adults, from the region or from further afield, to join guided exhibition visits: either ‘classic’ tours or interactive ‘dialogues’ bringing the works into contact with other artistic disciplines, scientific subjects, regional heritage or even with gastronomy.

Classes are welcome at the Art Centre. A comprehensive educational project is designed for each exhibition. From infant- to secondary-school II classes or vocational schools, all ages are welcomed by our trained educators who accompany the children on a voyage of discovery into an interactive new artistic and recreational experience.

A tailor-made programme

Activities are adapted to the pupils’ ages and, as far as possible, correspond to the key aims of the PER (Plan d'étude romand), in various subjects: visual arts, history, literature, etc.

Teaching files are available for teachers enabling them to familiarize themselves with the educative project, choose the activities they are interested in and prepare their class visit.

If you would like to discover the show with your friends, neighbours or colleagues, we offer you the opportunity to do so at your convenience, with an individual welcome.
